Making a battery

-using two different metals the students made a 6 cent battery.  With the idea of stacking two metals with different charges students were able to use vinegar, a paper towel, a penny, and a nickel and show energy they converted from the two.  With these house hold tools students have learned how to power an entire house…. maybe not yet… but this experiment can easily be done at home!

Parent Letter

1/9/17

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!  The New Year brings new goals, and our 4th grade classroom is no different.  We have made new agreements for the second half of the school year, and I want your help to make sure these agreements are followed.  If you would discuss what the class agreements are and why they have made these agreements, I believe students would feel more ownership for what agreements they have made.  This also makes it easier to discuss with you, the parent, if students are finding it difficult to follow these.

I would also like to let you know that each student will be taking home a folder.  This will have important papers, letters, and homework assignments that the student will need.  This folder will go home every day.  If it for some reason doesn’t make it home, please contact me, and we will locate this folder.

Thank you for a great year so far.  I have enjoyed all of your kids a great deal! Email me with any questions.

If you are reading this, it means you have located your child’s take home folder.  Thank you!

I appreciate being able to work as a team with you.  When our children know that there is a strong connection between home and school, they perform better and learn more.

Please write two of the classroom agreements we have here:

Please don’t forget to check my blog: https://tsmith25.edublogs.org/ You will find entries about what your child does at school as well as the weekly update so you know what to look for in the upcoming week.

Please sign this paper and send it back with your child.

Thank you!
