Using base 10 blocks and counters we looked at square arrays:

1×1, 2×2, 3×3, 4×4,5×5, 6×6, 7×7……

These pictures were taken earlier this year, but I wanted to post them to show some of the great ways we work together and collaborate in class.  Here we are making class agreements, but allowing everyone an opportunity to have a voice.

Last week we planted Chia in half and just dirt in the other half of our paint trays.  We will have a chance to watch this change and grow throughout the unit.  It will also be a great observation once the chia is grown to see what would happen if it rains on our chia.

This last week we inquired into what our Earth is made of. We watched some videos and used a fun interactive site that explored what each layer is called and what it is made out of.   After doing this we made a sculpture out of modeling clay of the layers of the Earth and labeled them.  This will help us as we begin to explore the changes that are caused due to these layers in the coming weeks.

We used sailboats to look at wind energy.

The 4th Grade class created solar ovens to see if they could warm up a Smore with as low as 40 degrees in the sun compared to 60 degrees in the shade.  Even though the temperature was lower on the sunny day the Smore cooked in 20 minutes compared to 35 minutes on the shady 60-degree day!

For about half an hour during our recess, we got to get up close and personal with some deer around our woods!

The 4th-grade students recreated the masked singer but with many different types of performance and we called it the masked performer! Here is the video link!
